This sums up a lot of who I am, and why I am the way I am :)

An Amazing Sunday Afternoon

My buddy Gavin is visiting from Austin. I decided to show him the Vegas strip from a distance. He snapped a great shot of me and Dexter at the top of the hike.

The Push Has Come

I sent an article to a friend that describes the importance of writing. Not simply writing, but writing often, and in a platform that allows for review and input.

For the past six years, I have used this blog to capture the thoughts and images of places far away. As my feet have taken me to soils and sights with different cultures, my camera lens has captured the instant images of those moments. However, once I return home, my camera and body become stationary. There is no excuse for this.

I cycle and hike, but I don't capture the moments through words or viewfinder. Why? Just because it hasn't taken a passport or flight to bring me to this activity doesn't exclude it from deserving reflection.

I made a commitment to get me to take more pictures. I bought a new wide angle lens for my camera and now the incentive is concrete and attached to the camera.

Hopefully more pictures and writing to come...

Extra Hours

My boss suggested a genius idea...get up and get outside.

Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30pm is mine. If I feel the need, and have gotten what needs to be done by then, I have those 3 hours to do my thing.

Too bad today the wind was too heavy and wild to allow for tire to be put to pavement. But tonight can be mine at the gym.

Now, I just need to get out and make it mine.

Back on the keyboard

It has been many months since I have written anything. I can say that things have by no means been uneventful though. For whatever reason, the desire to sit and write has not been high.

There have been events of near death repercussions, amazingly beautiful sunrises, nights with friends and drinks, newly discovered bike rides, and now, even a new job.

I have put the traveling shoes under the bed for a while. I have replaced my passport with a computer screen and a keyboard. This has been difficult.

I am working in a sector that is important: Education, non-profits, volunteer organizations, mentoring, and foster care. This is a good thing. My ability to let the mind quiet from worlds away and focus on the here and now is an education in itself.

I need to remind myself to take the camera out of the case and explore again. I need to remember that hiking and biking, though more scheduled these days, are still daily (more like weekly) events.

I hope this writing will inspire me to continue my adventures...even if from home
